What my body taught me about unspoken grief

I grew up in a loving home — supported, connected, part of a blended family.
But there was an elephant in the room my body could feel in every cell.

No one talked about what was unspoken.
I carried it.

That unspoken grief put me into a state of hypervigilance.
Even in a supportive environment, unresolved tension lived in my nervous system.

By my 20s, my body was telling a clearer story:
autoimmune disorders, chronic IBS, daily inflammatory pain.

I don’t believe there’s ever a single cause for dis-ease — but I know in my heart that unresolved grief was a major thread in my story.

I began to shift my nervous system — from a perpetual state of freeze — toward safety and rest.
Not with force, but through practices that helped me listen to my body:

  • brain-based therapy

  • herbs and food that supported healing

  • yoga and meditation for nervous system regulation

Gradually, I saw change. Not just symptom relief — but real release.
My body remembered its natural capacity to heal when given safety and attunement.

I know I’m not alone. Millions of people — women in particular — live with autoimmune conditions, chronic pain, and a body that’s been holding what was never spoken.

What if your symptoms aren’t the enemy, but the language of your grief?

I imagine a future where our healthcare system integrates brain-based therapy for everyone who wishes to access it — where healing includes listening, not just masking.

In the meantime, if this resonates with you — if you’re ready to learn what your body has been trying to tell you — I invite you to book an introductory call.

We’ll explore your unique situation and use evidence-based EMDR therapy to help you connect what your body is holding with what it’s ready to release.

You don’t have to carry this alone.

Warmly,
Andrea
